Nests are growing...

It’s officially wasp removal season, and we’ve been getting lots of calls for cavity-nesting yellow jackets (Vespula spp.) and bald-faced hornets (Dolichovespula maculata) over the last few days. Nests of these species seem to be growing exponentially this time of year, since queens have established their hives and the first cohort of workers are now helping to build comb and bring in food. We’ve been finding wasps in walls, under shrubs, in lawns, and in trees. Keep your eyes out for exciting bugs and send any questions or photos our way if you want help with identification!
